Take your cat to the vet @Royal Canin

Go with  your cat to the vet

In Belgium, 70% of cats are not regularly checked by the vet. Have your cat checked regularly by the veterinarian can prevent serious conditions from early detection.

Do you speak the language of your cat?

There are several reasons why cats do not regularly go to consultation with the vet. One is that cats are masters at hiding or masking diseases.

Together with our partners we would like to make you aware of the importance of preventive veterinary care for cats.

Why is preventive veterinary care so important?

A regular routine is very important for the early detection and treatment of various (chronic) disorders. It is not because your cat looks externally healthy, there is nothing to worry about. The importance of routine control increases even more when your cat gets older. In a recent study at the University of Ghent, it was established that older cats (> 10 years) who looked healthy at first sight had a higher blood pressure, a higher heart rhythm, more heart noise and less good urine values than their younger counterparts.

An annual or six-monthly check up is highly recommended. Because did you know that 1 year of age for a cat is the equivalent of 4 to 7 human years? Do you visit the doctor only once every five years?

Traveling with your pet

  • Dogs an cats withing Europe

You  need to have an European passport (with electronic identification of your animal)  + vaccination against rabies (at least 1 month before departure). Some countries ask for deworming at least 24h before departure. An healthcertificate is no more needed  inside Europe.

Be carefull for the new arangement for the rabies vaccin: If you are getting a pup/kitten outside of Belgium he has to be vaccinated against rabies. Considering that the vaccin can be injected only from the age of 12 weeks and that after de primovaccination it needs a processing period of 21 days. These animals can only enter Belgium at the age of 16 weeks. This dessision is dramatic for there education, thats why we recomand to take a dog/kitten in belgium at the age of 8 weeks so they can actively socialise.

Since we are licensed veterinarians, we have a legal duty to notify the FASFC when adopting a dog/kitten that is not right with this legislation.

  • Dogs and cat outside Europe

We invite you to contact in advance  the embassy of the country of your destination for further information.
